Standing at 6 feet 3 inches with a gigantic 6 foot 10 wingspan Donovan Mitchell provides a distinct combination of size, length and athleticism. He has improved his overall offensive game in the past year. As a freshman in college, Mitchell averaged 7.4 points per game and shooting 25% from the 3 point line for Lousiville. In his sophomore season he averaged 15.6 points per game and shot 35% from the 3 point line. Mitchell hits tough shots and can shoot off the dribble, and is consistently improving his balance and body control. When Mitchell was a freshman in college he wasn’t considered a good ball handler, but, by the time his sophomore year came, he showed great handle and ball control. Mitchell also has a great first step with a great change of pace. The thing that stands out the most to me is his effort on defense: He not only gets into the offensive players grill and makes them uncomfortable, he also averages 2.6 steals per game. Mitchell is a bit undersized for his position and many also don’t know what position he is. Donovan Mitchell is a combo guard with improving point guard skills and is a bit undersized to play the 2. He shows heart over height and with that, taller players aren’t able to use their height as an advantage against him. He can play the 1 for stretches but commits a lot of turnovers and isn’t the most patient when he runs the point. Offensively, he takes some bad shots and needs to develop some consistency in his shooting. Mitchell takes too many tough shots and tends to force it while also taking a lot of shots early in the shot clock. While Mitchell shows his flashes of elite scoring and good shooting, he is far away from being a truly elite NBA all-around player. Mitchell boasts a great combination of length, athleticism and toughness. Mitchell is going to be a tough player. The minimum Mitchell turns out to be is a defensive specialist who can score a little bit. Mitchell shows great flashes and great moments when he plays. Mitchell has a competitive fire and a hard-working mentality. Mitchell has amazing potential right off the bat to be a great player. With a tough two-way mentality and the right opportunities, Mitchell could blossom into a star
